These helmet covers are what the French Army wore on their issued F1 helmets during the 80s and 90s in desert theatres. Soldiers during desert storm added their own rubber lining around the ring, which later became adopted into the standard design. These earlier versions are just a plain cotton design with a very simple loop cord around the edge.
